• 05 Apr 2006 , 11:06:38 TOUR DE BATIK BANTULAN: FROM PLERET, IMOGIRI TO PANDAKSMKN 3 Kasihan, one of vocational High school in Bantul, held tour deBatik Bantulan, one of Jogjanese Batik Style in order to preserve traditional batik of Bantul regency, which is known as Batik Bantulan.
There are three centers of batik production: Arista Batik (Pleret), Bimasakti Batik (Imogiri) and Bu Sri Batik (Pandak). On Tuesday March 20, 2006, fifty participants joined the tour after following batik
workshop the day before. This activity held to commemorate the 43rd Anniversary of SMKN3 Kasihan.
The price of Batik whether printing and hand-made are very various among the places. In Arista Batik (Pleret) the price of Printing Batikist Rp. 50.000 and up, while the hand made one is Rp. 150.000. There is another kind of batik which people can buy per meter, this is called
Batik Meteran. The price is Rp. 20.000 per meter. In the Bimasakti Batik the price is far different. The hand-made batik worth Rp. 350.000, it is relatively expensive due to the foreign market.Bimasakti Batik led by Ibu Hartinah, is one of the batik centre which is on the up and up. The influence of economic crisis had less impact on the transaction since it has loyal costumers.
After visiting Bimasakti Batik, the participants visited Joglo Cipto Wening Batik Museum in Imogiri. The museum owned by Ibu Bondan Gunawan, supported by Bantul Regency and Sri Sultan HB X (Governor of Jogjakarta Special Province) on March 18, 2004. Besides showing
thousands batik antique collection, the museum has showroom of batik from Bantul-handicraftsmen. People can buy these collections everyday. On holiday or Sunday, the museum serves the traditional food and
drinks.
Then the participants went to Bu Sri Batik in Pandak, they found the printing batik’s price is higher than that in Pleret. It costs Rp.60.000 and Rp.100.000 for hand-made with original Bantulan style.
The participants finished their route on Bu Topo Batik and Bu Dirjo Batik in Pandak. The collection of Bu Topo batik are various from “Jarik” (fabric for men or women), pajamas, blouse, shirt and scarf. The price is from Rp. 25.000 and up. It also has printing batik with
natural coloring. In Bu Dirjo batik, the collection is more various from printing, hand-made batik and “batik meteran”. Fashionable products, such as shirts, teenager fashion, Moslem fashion, and other accessories are available here.
From the tour held, the participants are served well by the handicraftsmen with various choices of Bantulan batik. They spent around Rp. 6.000.000. Most of them said that they plan to visit again personally or with their family or colleagues.
