Village Cleansing in Ngentak Poncosari People of Jopaten sub village, Poncosari village, Srandakan sub district, Bantul regency always do traditional ceremony of Village cleansing every year. Based on folktale, one day in Jopaten sub village, there was a murder. So, to avoid the murder people did ritual ceremony by doing tirakatan (not have sleep along night), pray and read holy Qur’an. At the day, they served offerings crispy rice, cooked chicken, side dishes, banana and tumpeng (rice and its side dishes which is usually completed with vegetables). After the offerings, leather puppet stage was held with the story of Bharatayuda (the story of heroes against the criminals). Other version says that Rasulan ceremony is done to respect the genesis of Jodipaten people named Kyai Jopati. This village cleansing ceremony is done to expect harvest success and kept away from any disaster by praying to the almighty God.
This village cleansing is done several times after harvest season. The time is on March to April, while there is no clue about the performing day. The activity is done about 10.00 o’clock Indonesia West Time. At the night, there is dance of Tayub performing, tumpengan (eating rice together) and leather puppet as the top activity. This village cleansing ceremony is done by doing kenduri (have ritual eating together). Besides, leather puppet will be always performed at Wednesday of Kliwon by theme of Bharatayuda.
