| Lempung Keramik - Ceramic Craft
| | In 1990 Sumirah started her business when she tried to make craft made of earthenware. Somebody bargained and bought it. Start from that, she developed and it has been progressed up till now. She then opened her showroom at Kasongan Street and named it Lempung Ceramic.
Lempung Ceramic has specialization to make chair and table made of clay, which is taken from Bangun Jiwo area. Helped by 2 permanent and 2 daily workers, it can produce 300 pieces of item in a month. The products are chairs and tables, umbrella box, flower-vas and so on.
This business, managed by Sumirah with her own capital, has been running for 15 years. The working process starts from clay milling, molding (turning and molding way) then it is continued with drying process, firing and final finishing. In rainy season, the craft maker has a problem because it needs more times to dry it. But, it can be handle by putting the half products in opened area up to dry or putting it in oven.
The monthly selling income ranges from Rp 1 million to Rp 2 millions. Generally, consumers come by themselves, though these products have not spread over foreign country. However, Lempung Ceramic has supplied many big cities in Indonesia, such as at Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Bogor and Yogyakarta.
