Wachidussalam, who was born on December 25th, at Sampangan, Wirokerten, Banguntapan, Bantul Regency, started his career as a worker at ASRI, which moved on fine art field and other crafts. Then, he got a project to paint plafond at Cilacap. During staying in Cilacap, he watched craft made of leather and it made him interested.


From his interesting, he decided to quit from ASRI and chose to become a businessman. In 1991, with his knowledge he had, he established KURNIA Handicraft, which produced leather-crafts. He opened showroom at his house. His works have been supplied to the local market at Malioboro and Prambanan.

Because of many competitors, he made a new creation by making natural craft made of agel and enceng gondok fiber. Helped by 2 permanent workers, he is able to produce 500 pieces of item every month with the products, such as bag, belt and Tissue box. He takes the material from Kulon Progo and Gamplong. His monthly income ranges from Rp 1 to Rp 5 millions. To enlarge his marketing, he opened showroom at the Art Market of Gabusan lots III Kav 28 in the end 2004.

In 1993, he joined to become a member of KSU APIKRI up till now. With his membership, he gets a lot of orders from big cities in Indonesia, like Jakarta, Semarang, Bali and Yogyakarta. For foreign market, he gets order from America, Japan and Canada. And to enlarge his marketing, he always follows exhibitions in Jakarta, Bali, Raimuna, JEC and FKY.
