To the devotee of statues and crafting made of stone, they are not necessary to go to Muntilan, Center of Java now. In Lemah Dadi sub village, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan, Bantul about 15 kilometers of Yogyakarta city there has been stone crafting industry center yet. The stone, which is used, is brexi stone, black stone and white stone where it is mostly taken from Prambanan and Wonosari. They produce statue, relief, ornament, and flowerpot. All is made perfectly. The price is considered reachable. The price is various, start from Rp 40.000,- to Rp 100.000,- for molding statue and Rp 150.000,- to Rp 1.300.000,- for original carving statue.


The pioneer of stone crafting industry center in Lemah Dadi is Sugiman (34 years old) and Budi Mulyono (36 years old). They are well skilled to carve stone, because they ever worked at stone industry center in Muntilan, in 1991. Mr. Nyoman, man who was the owner of Gallery where they worked stated that the two people had expertise and might run their own business of stone crafting. Sugiman who is from Lemah Dadi and Budi Mulyono who is from Sleman that finally married with woman from Lemah Dadi, immediately started their business. “We really started with basic capital,” admitted them. From the salary of working that they gathered for years, they bought materials, stone and equipment likes chisels and hammers.

At first, they entrusted their crafting stone at Mr. Nyoman’s gallery and Art Shops in Yogya and Bali as their way to market their products. They took Yogyakarta and Bali as the center of crafting in this country, which is often visited by tourists especially from foreign countries.

Less than 5 years of running business, they can market their product to English, Netherlands, America, Australia, etc. For the local market, Bali is still regarded as the potential market. There are 5 crafters in Lemah Dadi that use natural stone as the basic material. But they also serve molding statue orders. They also made things, which made of traso. Their monthly earnings reached Rp 75 – 100 millions. There are a lot of positive impacts, since the stone crafting industry center has established. It absorbed a lot of manpower. There have been more 100 local youngsters who work at the center now. If there is “full completed work”, the wages will reach up to Rp 600.000,- per week. The local government also pride to the center, because the center pushes down the unemployment number, especially in Lemah Dadi and generally at Bantul Regency.
