Dirgantara Mandala Air Force Museum The museum is located at angle north of Bantul Regency, border with Sleman Regency. It is exactly at Air Base of Indonesian Air Force, Adisucipto Yogyakarta. This museum attractively shows Indonesian Air Force history and history of Indonesian Air Force development. Besides diorama, there are a lot of types of plane, which was used, in struggling day. Some models of that plane belonged to Japan’s army that is used by Indonesian Air Force.
The existence of center museum of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’ is based on Indonesian Air Force Leader’s idea to keep all historical incidents, which took place at Indonesian Air Force still alive along the time.
Based on many considerations that Yogyakarta City had important role in history during 1945-1949 period (a birth place of Indonesian Air Force and Indonesian Air Force activity center and also as training center for Flier Detective Head), this museum, which was formerly at Jakarta, was moved to Yogyakarta. The museum, which is located at Indonesian Army Force of Air Subject, was opened by Indonesian Army Force Marshall, Ashadi Tjahyadi as center museum of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’.
At the following time, this museum is not able to keep any other collection and its location is difficult to be reached by public transportation and vehicle. Thus, the leader of Indonesian Air Force decided to move it to ex sugar cane factory building at Wonocatur, Adisucipto Air Port. Before the movement had been done, the building was renovated to be center museum of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’. The head of Indonesian Air Force staff, Marshall Ashadi Tjahyadi signed inscription on 17 December 1982, as an incident that the building renovation was started.
In commemorating Indonesian Air Force Social day, the head of Indonesian Air Force staff, Marshall Sukardi opened that renovated building as the center museum building of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’ on 29 July 1984. That museum is located at Adisucipto airport, under Sub Department of History, Personnel Cure Department of Indonesian Air Force, Jakarta.
The center museum building of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’, which is used now, is ex sugar cane factory, Wonocatur in Dutch day. In Japan day, it was used for weapon store and plane keeping place (hangar).
Center museum of Indonesian Air Force ‘Dirgantara Mandala’ shows historical collections, such as Air Hero’s inheritance, diorama, miniature planes, plane from Japan, US, England, Netherlands and USSR, guns, knifes, plane machine, radar, bomb or rocket, parachute and statue of Indonesian Air Force heroes.
